domestic violence

Impact of substance abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse on the family unit

This week, you will examine the impact that issues such as substance abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse have on families, including the effect that each issue may have on individual family members. In order to effectively conceptualize the impact of these types of issues, you will need to consider the impact they have on various units within a family structure (i.e., couples, parent/child relationships, extended families, and the family system as a whole). As you consider the resulting impact of these issues, you will be challenged to develop a framework for intervention using empirically supported treatments and evidence-based practices.

Note

In this Discussion, you will examine the impact of substance abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse on the family unit. You will specifically examine counseling interventions that can help the family unit to recover from such difficult issues. For this week’s discussion forum, respond to the following:

  • Think about the similarities and differences in how these issues may affect families, as well as how the effects may compare to the potential effects of other issues.
  • Analyze the impact of one area (i.e., substance abuse, domestic violence, or child abuse) on couples and families. Compare the methods for treating the issue you selected using your learning resources and at least one article from the Lamar University Library that supports your position.

Instructions

  • Provide a list of 3 APA references that your colleagues could use to learn more about your area of discussion.

prevention of violence

prevention of violence

Some experts say that it is impossible for an employer to predict who will be violent, so there is not much employers can do to prevent violence in the workplace.

  • What is your personal viewpoint regarding this statement?
  • As you explain your rationale, consider your current or a previous workplace.
  • Do you feel safe from the threat of workplace violence?
  • If it were your own business, is there anything you would do differently to protect your workers?

An assessment of health promotion

Goal:

To conduct an assessment of health promotion while applying the nursing process and evidence based research to disseminate findings to course colleagues.

Case:

Jessica is a 32 y/old math teacher who presents to the ER with a friend for evaluation of sudden decrease of vision in the left eye. She denies any trauma or injury. It started this morning when she woke up and has progressively worsened over the past few hours. She had some blurring of her vision 1 month ago and thinks that may have been related to getting overheated, since it improved when she was able to get in a cool, air-conditioned environment. She has some pain if she tries to move her eye, but none when she just rests. She is also unable to determine colors. She denies tearing or redness or exposure to any chemicals. Nothing has made it better or worse.

She denies fever, chills, night sweats, weight loss, fatigue, headache, changes in hearing, sore throat, nasal or sinus congestion, neck pain or stiffness, chest pain or palpitations, shortness of breath or cough, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, dysuria, vaginal discharge, swelling in the legs, polyuria, polydipsia, and polyphagia.

Patient is alert; she appears anxious. BP 135/85 mm Hg; HR 64bpm and regular, RR 16 per minute, T: 98.5F. Visual acuity 20/200 in the left eye and 20/30 in the right eye. Sclera white, conjunctivae clear. Unable to assess visual fields in the left side; visual fields on the right eye are intact. Pupil response to light is diminished in the left eye and brisk in the right eye. The optic disc is swollen. Full range of motions; no swelling or deformity. Mental status: Oriented x 3. Cranial nerves: I-XII intact; horizontal nystagmus is present. Muscles with normal bulk and tone; Normal finger to nose, negative Romberg. Intact to temperature, vibration, and two-point discrimination in upper and lower extremities. Performance Assessment

Performance Assessment

Assignment 5

This the standard to be assess. RL. 6.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of a specific word choice on meaning and tone.

Performance Assessment– Students demonstrate their abilities in a multitude of ways. Some will demonstrate mastery of written assessments while others will shine during projects, presentations, or artistic expression. How can students prove their mastery of your chosen standard in an alternative form? Create a performance assessment for your students. This will consist of four (4) parts:

    • teacher GRASPS document
    • teacher planning documents,
    • interesting student copy (should grab students’ attention and make them excited to complete the assignment), and include ALL information students need to complete the assignment
    • a rubric (used for scoring and explaining various levels of completion).

Note

As you begin to plan, remember that not all students are the same. Work to incorporate choice into the assignment. This will also help the student create ownership of the assignment. In Appendix B, see examples of the “Teacher Planning: Performance Task Template”, “GRASPS”, student instructions “Extra NEWS Paper”, and “Rubric Template Example”.

Part 2

Write a letter to parents explaining the performance assessment and how the rubric will be used to grade their child’s submission. Items to include in your letter: a brief explanation of the task and the purpose behind the task; a summary of the rubric categories, how each category is scored, how the rubric score is converted to a student grade.  Be sure to make your letter open to two-way communications where parents can contact you with questions and concerns.
