Physical Geography

After learning about the Hellenistic Age (Chapter 4 lecture), answer the following question. Follow the directions carefully in order to receive full credit.

Chapter 4 Lecture Question:

What was the Hellenistic Age and how did it come to be?

Directions for Answering the Question:

Using information from the lecture,

1. Explain what the Hellenistic Age was by offering a brief definition and the years during which it took place
   • Make sure to include both a definition and dates. You can combine this information in one sentence.
2. Discuss who first established the Hellenistic Age
   • Hint- It was not Philip!!
3. Describe at least ONE way he/she spread Greek culture in conquered areas
   • Think about what he did that made people “want” to be Greek-like
4. Explain how far (geographically) culture in the Hellenistic Age reached
   • Hint- it stretched all the way to where the founder of this age and their troops stopped and turned around to go back home.
5. Describe at least TWO examples of the mixing of cultures during this time
   • Consider ways that Greek rulers also absorbed native practices or new ideas that came about because of the mixing of cultures
   • Be specific! Don’t just say they produced new scientific discoveries or philosophes. As always, describe them fully

Microeconomics

Topic:

• Recently there has been discussion in the news about taxing junk food (soft drinks, for example) in an effort to reduce the incidence of obesity in the U.S. Do you think the demand for junk food is elastic or inelastic with respect to price?
• Based on your knowledge of the price elasticity of demand, do you think the deadweight loss of a soda/junk-food tax would be relatively large or relatively small? Why? Do you think taxing junk food would be a good idea? Based on your analysis, would it really help reduce the number of obese people in the United States? Explain.

Dominant privilege’s

Students must identify and explore the privileges they receive from belonging to at least 5 Dominant Groups and identify the potential oppression their privileges cause others around them who do not belong to their dominant group.  Additionally, students must identify and explore the oppression they experience by belonging to 3 “social minority groups” and how this oppression affects their quality of life.  (6 Page Paper; must utilize social justice terminology; must have 5 Literary Sources, APA 7th ed.) Lipid Flowchart

Please make a flowchart

Start with the events that occur in the mouth and work your way through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract by explaining what happens to fats in the stomach and small intestine.  Include the contributions of the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas to digestion, and be specific about which molecules are absorbed.  For example, triglycerides must be broken down into monoglycerides, glycerol, or free fatty acids in order to be absorbed.

Note

Be sure and give the specific names of any enzymes involved in the digestion process.  Also, don’t leave out the formation of chylomicrons in the enterocytes and their role in lipid transport.
