Violent Crimes

  Violent Crimes

Discussion: In the first required reading “Crime in the United States, 2018 – Violent Crime”, the FBI includes four general offense types grouped together as part of its Uniform Crime Report (UCR) Program to collect data that it classified overall as violent crime. Also included in the readings are FBI summaries of each of those four offense types that include the general elements of the offense as well as some statistics regarding those offenses.

For your initial discussions post:

(1) pick ONE (1) of those four offenses and generally describe the elements of the offense;

(2) describe what you believe your biggest challenge as an investigator would be proving all of those elements of the offense; and

(3) identify AT LEAST ONE investigative tool or technique that you think would be critical to solving that case and explain why it is important.

For example, of you pick murder as your topic, you will need to explain what the general elements of that offense are and then identify what you which element you think is the biggest challenge to prove (is it the willful intent, showing how the crime occurred in the case of a found body with no witnesses, etc), and then identify an investigative technique or service that will be critical (is it polygraphs, ballistic evidence, interviewing, crime scene management, etc).

Requirements:

  • your initial post should be a minimum of 250-280 words. .
  • All initial posts should reference the textbook or at least one outside source. All sources must be cited using APA guidelines.

Consumer Behavior

Design Studies And Evaluate Research In Consumer Behavior

The goal of this assignment is to integrate a piece of primary research (in psychology or consumer behavior) with management decision-making. You should survey the literature to find a paper of interest and think about how those findings could be extended and applied to a real-world situation. Once you’ve identified an interesting paper, you should write up a summary, critique, and extension. Throughout the paper, your goal is to explain how the research questions could help a business make better decisions or create a stronger strategy.
Find an empirical paper on any aspect of consumer behavior that you find interesting — To get you started you can read this analysis of various topics that are often published in the field of consumer behavior (http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2158244016645638) or peruse the consumer behavior section of HBS’s Working Knowledge publication (https://hbswk.hbs.edu/Pages/browse.aspx?HBSTopic=Consumer%20Behavior).
These resources are just a starting point; in both cases be sure to search for, read, and use the primary source you identify.

Note

Write up a brief (approximately 250 words) summary and critique of the paper.
Based on your critique, formulate a follow-up hypothesis, and propose an experiment that could test that hypothesis.
The experiment proposal should be approximately 500-750 words and clearly indicate your hypothesis, proposed methodology (including independent and dependent variables), and expected results. Remember when it comes to experimental design, simple does not mean that it is bad. Being able to test an important idea with a simple design is ideal.
Throughout the paper, be sure to explain how the research questions could help a business make better decisions or create a stronger strategy.
Learning Outcomes Added :
Customer Centricity: Identify customer needs and explain how their fulfillment leads to better business.
Consumer Behavior: Design studies and evaluate research in consumer behavior.
Research Strategy: Assess the role of market research and consumer psychology in decision-making and strategy formation.

Shadow Banking

 Shadow Banking

Shadow Banking takes on multiple forms, but is mainly non-commercial banks providing services similar to or the same as commercial banks.  The growth in shadow banking has several causes.  Increased regulations on commercial banks that limit their service offerings is one factor.  Another is the ability of shadow banks to offer higher returns than commercial banks.  Such institutions continue to grow because they are offering services consumers want, but can’t obtain from commercial banks. Shadow banking is generally lightly regulated or unregulated.  However, since the 2007 financial crisis, western governments have examined shadow banking in more detail and have imposed a number of new regulation on their activities.  Thus, it is incorrect to say the industry is unregulated unless you specify a particular country where that is true. Assignment:
View the videos above
Read the article on  Shadow Banking Shadow Banking – Alternative Formats (the blank space contains the above video on the Economist website).
Undertake additional research as needed – remember that citations and references are required.
Follow the format below and prepare a report to investors that answer the following questions:

What is Shadow Banking?
What services do Shadow Banks provide?
What are the advantages of using a Shadow Bank?
What are the disadvantages (risks) of using a Shadow Bank?
How are Shadow Banks regulated or are they regulated?
Do you recommend that your investor use the services of a Shadow Bank (investor risk preferences play a role here)?  And why?

This is a research report, so the format is a bit different from the one used in Week 2:
An Introduction where you set the background and the objectives of the research report.
Concepts: here you define the terms and concepts used in the report.
Research  Finding: here you discuss the particular facts that you found which answer the above questions.
Recommendation and conclusion: here you will answer the last question and explain your reasoning.  Remember there may be different answers for investors with different risk preferences. Provide specific and detailed recommendations.
Use additional resources as needed, but remember to cite and reference them properly using APA style.  (Apa.pptx)
In a research report you apply your knowledge of the material being covered in the class. As well as using your analysis skills as applied to the case information.

Note:

For a short report such as this one, the Alternatives discussion can be combined with the Evaluation discussion as single section of your report. Be sure to include APA formatted citations and references. Citations in the body of your report and references are required.   (Apa.pptx) (Apa.pptx) – Alternative Formats Your final case is due by 11:59:59 pm Sunday, and your case should consist of a minimum of 500 words. Post your work to the Forum board by clicking on Create New Thread. Do not upload it as an attachment. You can edit your work here throughout the week, if you want to modify your case in response to feedback or other new information.  The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate your understanding of the material. Remember to include a word count at the bottom of your report .Now click the title, Week 3 Case Study above and go to the forum. You can start a new thread by clicking on the Create Thread button at the top. You can also respond to an existing post by clicking the Respond button at the bottom of the post.

Assignment: Study Plan

Based on your practice exam question results from Week 2, identify strengths and areas of opportunity and create a tailored study plan to use throughout this course to help you prepare for the national certification exam. This will serve as an action plan to help you track your goals, tasks, and progress. You will revisit and update your study plan in NRNP 6675, and you may continue to refine and use it until you take the exam.

To Prepare

Reflect on your practice exam

The Assignment

  • Based on your practice test question results, and considering the national certification exam, summarize your strengths and opportunities for improvement. Note: Your grade for this Assignment will not be derived from your test results but from your self-reflection and study plan.
  • Create a study plan for this quarter to prepare for the certification exam, including three or four SMART goals and the tasks you need to complete to accomplish each goal. Include a timetable for accomplishing them and a description of how you will measure your progress.
  • Describe resources you would use to accomplish your goals and tasks, such as ways to participate in a study group or review course, mnemonics and other mental strategies, and print or online resources you could use to study.

You may ask questions for clarification (if you are confused by their initial post) or pose questions that advance the conversation. You might even find a topic that leads you to further research in the area!

You will use the Internet to find two articles describing firms’ use of a cooperative strategy: one where trust is being used as a strategic asset and another where contracts and monitoring are being emphasized. What are the differences between the managerial approaches being used in the two companies? Which of the cooperative strategies has the highest probability of being successful? Why?
